Metallic Orb - Learn how to create a Metallic Orb using Adobe photoshop.
Introduction: In this tutorial I will teach you how to create a metallic orb. If you are having problems feel free to e-mail us, or post a message on the forum.
 

In this tutorial, I will teach you how to create the orb above.

Step1: Setting up work space.
Create a new image using the dimension  800 x 600. Set the background color to white. Create a new layer, Layer New Layer... (Shift+Ctrl+N). Name this layer Orb

Step2: Creating the main Orb.
Click on the Elliptical Marquee Tool while holding shift draw the circle shown below.

Using the Gradient Tool with the setting shown below

Draw the gradient going from the top to bottom. This will give you the effect below.

Right click on the Orb layer, Select Blending Options and add the settings shown below.

Drop Shadow

 

Stroke

 

Click ok to apply the settings.

Step3: Creating the smaller Orb.
Create a new layer, Layer New Layer... (Shift+Ctrl+N). Name this layer Orb2. Select the Ellipse Tool , using the setting below.

Create the smaller orb shown below, located inside the large orb.

I used #e2e2e2 as the small orb color. Right click on Orb2 layer, select Blending Options and add the settings shown below.

Outer Glow

 

Inner Glow

 

Color Overlay

 

Pattern Overlay (Download Pattern)

Click ok to apply the settings, and you should have the effect below.

 

Step4: Creating the screws.
Create a new layer, Layer New Layer... (Shift+Ctrl+N). Name this layer screw. Select the Ellipse Tool , using the setting below.

Create a small circle, this will represent the screws. Right click on the screw layer, click Blending Option and apply the setting shown below.

Click ok, to apply the setting. With that you should have the screw effect.

News Update [10/16/07]
Yesterday on the 15th of October my gallery went down for some unknown reason. I was able to get the backup of the images, i just lost all the users. The gallery was not that active but i am sill pissed about what happened. I am in the process of reloading the gallery.
